Please read this document carefully. By using Volt, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you have questions, DM us on X
Introduction
Volt ("we," "our," or "us") operates a Chrome browser extension and related web services that help users create and manage content for X/Twitter. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our extension and services.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Your data is used solely to provide and improve Volt's services.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
Information You Provide Directly:
- Account information when you sign in via X/Twitter OAuth (username, profile picture, email if provided by X)
- Content you create or draft using Volt's AI features
- Preferences and settings you configure within the extension
- Communications with our support team
Information Collected Automatically:
- Usage data including feature interactions, generation requests, and error logs
- Device and browser information for compatibility purposes
- Subscription and billing status (managed via Polar)
Information from X/Twitter:
- When you use Volt on X.com, our extension reads publicly visible content from the page (tweets, profiles, threads) to provide context-aware AI assistance
- Your own tweets and posting history (when you authorize) for voice matching and style analysis
- Profile information of accounts you interact with via Volt
- We do not intentionally process direct messages or protected content; features are scoped to public/authorized page content, and DMs are ignored by product logic
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Volt's core functionality
- Generate AI-powered content tailored to your voice and preferences
- Analyze your writing style to improve voice matching accuracy
- Process subscriptions and manage your account
- Communicate service updates, security alerts, and support responses
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms
- Comply with legal obligations
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:
- Backend data is hosted on Convex, a SOC 2 compliant backend-as-a-service platform
- All data transmission is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- Session tokens are stored in the extension's local storage (chrome.storage.local) solely to maintain your session and are not exposed to websites or third parties
- We implement access controls and audit logging
While we implement robust security measures, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
Third-Party Services
Volt integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- X/Twitter: OAuth authentication and content access. Subject to X's Privacy Policy.
- Polar: Subscription and payment processing. We do not store your payment details; Polar handles all financial transactions.
- OpenRouter: AI model provider for content generation. Prompts are sent to the selected model provider via OpenRouter; retention and training are governed by the provider's policy. We do not use your prompts to train our own models.
- Convex: Backend database and real-time sync.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these services.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide our services:
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Generated content: Retained until you delete it or close your account
- Usage logs: Retained for up to 90 days in our backend analytics and diagnostics systems
- Billing records: Retained as required by law (typically 7 years)
When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you

- Deletion: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)

International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
